Individual & Couples Counselling
What is Counselling?
Counselling is a way of exploring difficult issues and the effect that they have had and may continue to have on us. As we work together in the counselling process, there is an opportunity to let go of and express painful feelings in a safe and non-judgemental atmosphere. Sometimes a client may feel stuck in a pattern of behaviour which they want to change and we can look at strategies which can enable them to move towards making these changes. We always work at the client's pace and there is no pressure to produce results.
Confidentiality is maintained in accordance with British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy guidelines. Only where the client has given their consent or there is a legal or civic obligation would any personal information be disclosed.
What Conditions Can it Help?
Relationship problems
Depression
Loss and Bereavement
Addiction
Mid-life crisis
Fertility problems
Spiritual problems
Post-abortion issues
Sexual problems
Abuse
What Benefits can be Expected?
Unresolved issues which are held in the memory can cause a variety of long-term reactions such as depression, hopelessness, anxiety, panic attacks and other negative effects in the body.
Although, initially, it can be painful, the process of letting go of traumatic memories which we may have been carrying around for a long time - can bring great relief.
Working through loss and bereavement, of whatever kind, can bring acceptance and closure.
Learning strategies and and having the 'tools' to cope with difficult situations can be tremendously empowering.
Couples Counselling
My role in counselling couples is to try to effect communication between the couple in a safe and confidential setting. In my experience, if there is a willingness to commit to working together through sometimes difficult and painful issues then it is possible to achieve healing, acceptance and a rebuilding of the relationship.
I usually ask the couple to complete a Psychometric Questionnaire (See www.prepare-enrich.co.uk). This is sent away, anonymously, to be processed and the results will show the strengths and growth areas in the relationship. These results allow a plan for the counselling work to be made which may cover such issues as:
Communication
Conflict resolution
Financial issues
Parenting
Infertility
Sexual problems
Sexual betrayal
Cultural differences
Spiritual issues
